Subject: [HQ Memo] Passing of Our Beloved Brother, Eric Holt
May 22, 2013
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
By now, I am sure that you have heard the news of Eric Holt’s sudden and unexpected ascension. He passed this morning, Wednesday May 22nd at 5.55 AM due to complications arising from liver cancer, after a dramatic and extremely rapid decline. In fact, we were expecting him at work on Monday morning but he was instead being admitted into the hospital.
Throughout today, we have been in contact with Korea. Several hours ago, we received a short message conveyed from True Mother expressing her condolences and support for Eric, Kanae, and their family. We will hold a national-level Seonghwa for him this coming Saturday, May 25.
Last night, Bishop Kim, my wife Fumiko and I, Rev. and Mrs. Jenkins and many others gathered at Eric’s bedside at St. John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers. We said our farewells and prayed for Heavenly Parent’s grace and mercy as he moves on to his eternal life in the presence of God and True Parents. All of his family and many of his friends were there. We felt strongly that True Father is waiting for Eric and already has several assignments in mind for him.
From October 1, when True Mother first called Eric, Rev. Jenkins, Bishop Kim and I to Korea, it has been my privilege to work together with him in the HSA-UWC National Headquarters, where Eric always set the exemplary standard in negotiating many tough financial and operational matters. During a life of faith of forty years, he was an evangelist, church leader, state leader, MFT captain, strong and dedicated member of his local church, and so much more. We will miss him deeply on so many levels.
To me, much more than a work colleague, Eric was my dear friend and elder brother. We attended UTS together from 1992 to 1994, and our paths have crossed many times since then. We attended True Parents side-by-side in Korea, America and around the world, every step of the way. We also shared many private passions including the same favorite British fiction authors, and golf – though both of us were too busy to play much, and Eric was much better than me.
I was deeply moved by Eric's wife, Kanae, and her absolute love and attendance to him in his final hours at the hospital last night. Her smiling face and gentle touch reminded me that love does indeed conquer all, that life is eternal, and that with the grace of True Parents’ Seonghwa, we will all meet again as one family in eternity.
My dear brother Eric, give our best wishes to True Father and tell him that we will support True Mother on earth, and carry on his work together until we meet again.
