  • Un Jin Nim's Birthday (1967)

On this lunar date, the 23rd day of the 11th month, in 1967, True Parents' fourth daughter Un Jin Nim was born. In the black and white photo below, the baby in True Father's arms is often misidentified as Un Jin Nim's sister Ye Jin Nim, True Parents' eldest daughter.

In the color photo likely taken the same day, True Father is holding Un Jin Nim, True Mother is holding their son Heung Jin Nim and In Jin Nim, True Parents' third daughter, is standing in front of Mrs. Won Bok Choi. (True Parents' second daughter Hye Jin Nim, born on June 19, 1964 lunar, ascended on June 27, 1964 lunar.)

On the solar date, January 2nd, in 1984, True Parents' second son Heung Jin Nim ascended. His ascension is observed as the Day of Victory of Love on the 2nd day of the 1st lunar month which falls on February 9th in 2016.

Here's a report of his passing from FFWPU USA's 2015:

This Week in history, December 27 – January 2

Heung Jin Moon was critically injured in a car accident north of Poughkeepsie, New York, on December 22, 1983, while returning with two companions to East Garden in Tarrytown, New York from the Unification Theological Seminary in Redhook, New York. Though seriously injured, his two friends survived because, according to their testimony, Heung Jin Moon swerved the car at the last moment to take the brunt of the impact himself and save them. He suffered massive head injuries and lingered in a coma for ten days before ascending at 1:15 a.m. on January 2, 1984. He was seventeen. By all accounts, he was an exemplary son. True Father described him as “the most exemplary, obedient son, with the greatest piety … the most comforting son to Mother and me.”

True Parents were out of the country at the time of the accident, conducting a series of Victory over Communism rallies in Korea. A number of spiritualists had communicated to them that December 1983 was a “very dangerous time” and that True Father “must absolutely be careful.” True Father later testified that at the last rally in Kwangju, a left-leaning city with a reputation for rebelliousness, 36 terrorists were prepared to attack but were prevented from doing so because “the auditorium was already completely packed by the time they arrived.”

During True Father’s speech in Kwangju, Heung Jin Moon’s accident occurred. According to True Father, “Satan lost his condition to attack me and then turned his attention to the next best, my second son.”

Having laid down his life for his friends and standing as a substitute for his father, Heung Jin Moon occupied what True Father described as “the position of the living Jesus in the Unification Church.” While Heung Jin Moon lay in a coma, True Parents conducted a ceremony in the hospital chapel in which, on the foundation of Heung Jin Moon’s “precious sacrifice,” they called for the unity of Judaism, Christianity and the Unification Church; the unity of Korea, Japan and the United States; the unification of True Parents and their family and the members of the Unification Church, as well as all races of the world.

After Heung Jin Moon’s ascension, True Parents established the Day of Victory of Love.

On this day, January 4th, in 2005, True Father said:

From now everything will be focused on building the Kingdom of God. We have to create a beautiful environment for the Kingdom of God. We must be aware of the environment. We must purify the water and the environment. We must be very sensitive to the environment from now on as we have entered Cheon Il Guk. To do this we must take care of the immediate environment around our own homes.

Korea must became the highest form of a garden of flowers. There are 4,000 islands around Korea. All the worlds cultures and nationalities should be planted there, so that Korea will become a microcosm of the world. Blessed Couples will move to Korea. They will bring all the seeds of vegetables and flowers from every nation and then we can create Korea as the center of all creation. We must keep the concept of Sal Ja (living well).

There are challenges to the Kingdom, however. The symbol of communism is red, with the hammer and sickle, and symbolizes red blood. We must be aware that communism is still alive and trying to make a comeback.

Love is the key. Disciplining someone with love is not bad. Parents should discipline their children. The picture behind me was painted by Heung Jin Nim. It is a beautiful work, and his ability came from Father. (Mother said with a smile - he was so handsome and that came from me.)

      Heaven Is Calling Us
    Former Church Headquarters
    Seoul, Korea
    January 5, 1958
    Genesis 3:1-14

We can understand the origins of humanity's grief through the verses in the Bible. We can also learn within the Bible that the first human ancestors were chased away from the bosom of God.

God created all things based on the ideal of creation. After that, He created Adam and Eve as the central beings of the universe who could attend God and rejoice with all things. Yet because of their fall, God's purpose of creation remains unfinished. God has regretted creating humankind. This is the sorrow of God and the lament of all things.

The Heart of God, Who Was Calling for Fallen Adam

The happiness and hope of humankind, who should have enjoyed their life centering on the ideology of eternal goodness, was cut off at this point. God and humankind should have enjoyed eternal joy and peace centering on the eternal ideology. Yet the hope of the Creator and of all things has been fundamentally destroyed. We must realize deep inside that this is where the sorrow of God and of humankind can be found.

When God created all things, He poured out all His heart and soul. You know very well through the Divine Principle that He poured out all His energy, especially when He was creating Adam and Eve. Through exhausting toil, God created them as the temple where He could dwell.

When God created all things, it was for the sake of letting them live with humankind for eternity. It was done so that God could be happy when people were happy. God established this purpose of creation. Because of the fall of Adam, God could not experience even a moment of this joy. You must keep in mind that this is the reason God is trying to re-create this time again.

You must fathom the painful heart of God who called out to Adam, "Adam, Adam," after Adam and Eve fell. God was in the position to abandon Adam and Eve, who had abandoned Him, the Creator, but God looked for Adam, calling out, "Adam, Adam!" We must realize that God was not just calling for the two people, Adam and Eve. It was a historical calling.

Until today, people on earth have been ignorant of the internal heart of God who called out to Adam after the creation. The voice that called out to Adam, at that time, became the words of sorrow that represent the 6,000-year history of grief today. We have to understand that God called Adam with the sorrowful heart that represented all the grief inside the fallen realm after the creation of the world. Although 6,000 years of long history have passed since Adam, we have to know that God is connecting the events of that time to the present era and is calling out to us, the second Adam and Eve, in the same manner.

The people of faith who have served the will of the dispensation after the fall have mourned for the earth that cannot hear the voice of God calling for Adam and Eve. They grieved on God's behalf because they could feel this heart.

We must realize the distressed heart of God, who was calling for Adam and Eve after the fall. This was the heart of the Father who felt indescribably heartbroken when He saw that Adam had entered the forbidden place and fallen. When we grab onto that heart and mourn with the same heart, God can continue again in His dispensation of restoration toward people on the earth. You must never forget that God has been calling out to you by setting up countless prophets and saints throughout the course of history until now.

The voice calling out to fallen Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden is still heard today. After the fall, for 1,600 long years of history, God called for Adam with the same ardent heart. Clinging to the one person, Noah, who could remain loyal to Heaven, He was finally able to call out, "Noah! Noah!" You must learn to listen to this historical voice.

~ in 1985, Unificationists began Seil Travel in Seoul, Korea
~ in 2012, True Father began daily public rallies in Korea giving the talk "Cosmic Assembly for the Settlement of the True Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind and for the Proclamation of the Word by God's Substantial Self" in eight cities, one each day, from January 8th - 15th

During their third world tour, on January 8, 1972, True Parents formed the One World Crusade in New York City. The launching occurred in five nations. Fifty people participated in America; 15 in England; 60 in Germany, which included Austria; 600 in Japan, and 360 in Korea. Those in the One World Crusade engaged actively in many church activities including the Washington Monument rally. Their efforts contributed greatly to the World Rally for Korean Freedom on Yeouido Island, Korea, in 1974. Father called One World Crusade a “movement to take back the realm of new Israel.” (PeaceTV)

On January 8, 1985, Seil Travel was founded in Seoul. True Parents later visited the agency and wrote “Chungjeong (loyalty and sincerity)” in calligraphy. On that day True Father said, “Seil means to have a loving heart, to unite and interact through connecting with one another.” In September 1992, 8 years after its founding, for generating tourism income for the nation, it received the 10 million dollar President’s Tourism Promotion Tower Award. Again, in 1993, it received the 20 million dollar President’s Tourism Promotion Tower Award and rose to be one of the top travel agencies Korea.(PeaceTV)

On January 9, 2012, True Father said this about his 3rd marriage ceremony which was to take place on D-Day, January 13, 2013 lunar (February 22, 2013 solar):

"I will have my third marriage ceremony, which is the last one. When I have it on D-Day, I will ask all the Blessed families and the second gens, and all Mongolian-birth mark people to come to join us to the last man."

I am teaching young people from the best universities here to go to Africa and India and help the people there, rather than only do things for this country. I want the young people from advanced nations to experience the lives of the people in underdeveloped nations. Is this kind of idea bad or good in God's sight? If I put this kind of thing into practice and you follow me, what would the world look like in several years? This is the only way to erect the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. There is no other way to save the world.

    • Choongmo-nim's Ascension (1968)

Glorious Ascension, Choong Mo Nim! Today, the 8th day of the 12th lunar month (January 17, 2016 solar), marks the 48th observance of the ascension of True Father's mother Gyeong Gye Kim, or Choong Mo Nim (an honorific name meaning "Loyal Mother"). She ascended on 12.8 lunar in 1968.

On August 27, 1998, True Father said: "My mother loved me. She had never thought her son that she loved so much would become unfilial to her. I did not listen to her and took the completely opposite path. Now I gave her the title of 'Choong Mo,' but according to some spiritualists she is always crying in the spirit world, saying, 'I am mortified that I could not offer Jeong Seong more than Dae Mo Nim in order to help my son who is pioneering the providence. If I had been told how I should attend to God with my utmost heart on earth, I would not have felt shameful with the name 'Choong Mo.'"

From Sun Myung Moon's Life in His Own Words
      Mrs. Kim Kyung-gye, Choong-mo nim: (Loyal Mother] (10.15, 1888 - 1.17, 1968)

I'd say my mother was a female general -- yes, a woman general. She was considered an enterprising person. I am afraid that doesn't accurately describe her, but in every situation she did play an active part. I am like my mother in many ways. At first glimpse, I am a man with a large, sturdy build. I am a man of great strength and a man of muscle.

My mother was a woman of strong character. When she flogged laziness out of a boy with a switch, she didn't stop halfway. I am a stubborn, unbending person like my mother. Once I have made up my mind, I never give up. Indeed, that's what I'm like.

My mother gave birth to thirteen children. My wife had thirteen children too. It seems to have been transmitted from one generation to the next. Having many children is a family tradition. Many of my siblings died early, but eight brothers and sisters out of thirteen managed to live. [Including Yong-soo (Daehyung-nim), Hyo-soon, Yong-myung (the name Father was born with), Hyo-shim, Hyo-su and Hyo-sun (Father's sister who is still living in North Korea)]

Can you imagine what a difficult job it was for my mother to marry off her six daughters? I thought it was such a pity for a bride to get married into another family while burdening her family members and relatives with preparing the wedding. Though she had to get married, the bride may, I thought, be full of rancor on her wedding day against having been born a girl who is compelled to go into another family, leaving a heavy burden on her own family.

In marriage, the status of the bride's family is evaluated by the gifts that are prepared for the groom's family. In my hometown, they are called "courtesy gifts." Clothes and a lot of other things had to be prepared to make up a bundle of presents. In Pyong-an Province, they used to count how many yards of first-class cotton cloth the bride brought to her new family. Every family had to try to send good gifts in order to establish good standing with the groom's family. People have to eat food and wear clothes. Food and clothes are essential and so these are usually prepared for a daughter's marriage. In the case of a woman marrying a man of noble birth in a home with many elders... Women didn't have nylon stockings in those days; all clothes were made by women who picked and ginned cotton, spun it into thread and then wove it on a loom. My mother was a champion in doing those tasks. She was tough and strong. The average woman wove three or four jangs (sheets) a day, but my mother did twenty jangs in two days. When my elder sister married, my mother wove one pil (roll of cloth) per day. The situation was so urgent that she couldn't let a second slip away. She did the work in an instant. I was born with such a gift of being good at doing things quickly, as you know. [Laughter]

My mother and father loved me very much. It is natural for every mother to love her children, but for my mother I was very special. If I were to go on talking about this subject, you would cry many times.

The Summit Council for World Peace is an association of former heads of state and former heads of government from around the world. It was initially founded in 1981 with the name of the Summit Club. It evolved into a more practical organization working on the issues of peace and development. Initially, it was an idea to bring together former heads of state and government from all countries of the world, to use their expertise and their experience and statesmanship to work on the issues of world peace and development. However, the Summit Club was constricted: how to work was not articulated. That came later on, when we discovered those areas in which the heads of state could put the best of their experience to work. Our first major Summit was in 1987.

Founded in 1981, the Summit Council is an organization whose core membership comprises former heads of state and heads of government which seeks to avail itself of the extraordinary wealth of knowledge, intelligence, and goodwill of these leaders as it seeks solutions to the problems from grassroots to global concerns. These efforts has spawned initiatives to promote peace, and develop new equitable economic paradigms for the 21st century. SCWP is an organization of former heads of state and sitting heads of government to access the wisdom and experience of seasoned leaders for forums and conferences on world problems like poverty and the environment and war crisis areas. Most recently the Summit Council has been especially active in activity for peace between North Korea and South Korea.

A Model of the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth While offering prayer and devotion, True Parents began searching for a site to construct the Cheongpyeong holy ground in the latter half of the 1960s.

Dae Mo Nim went to the spirit world on November 3rd, 1989. Honoring the will of True Parents, she made conditions there for 3 years in order to help solve the problems befalling blessed families. She then found and chose Hoon Mo Nim to be her mediator on earth. They began a 3-year course together in 1992, and upon successfully completing this course, the Cheongpyeong Works could begin on January 19th, 1995. Since that time, the number of people who visit Cheongpyeong has been increasing with each passing year.

The 7th anniversary of the Cheongpyeong Works was celebrated on January 19th, 2002. True Parents were very happy to see that a model of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth was being actualized, centered on the sacred grounds of Cheongpyeong and with the Original Palace at its heart. True Father named this model of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth "Cheon Won," meaning Heavenly Garden.

    2. Protect God’s Kingship.

    O N E F A M I L Y U N D E R G O D
    January 23, 2016

    Dear Family,
Greetings from a very snowy New York! I would like to invite you to join me in reflecting on the importance of the upcoming Holy Days, and in particular Foundation Day and the Holy Marriage Blessings that will take place in Korea and around the world.

As you’ll remember, Father and Mother used to mark the days remaining to Foundation Day, starting in about 2010. The countdown was part of True Father’s final and favorite speech, Cosmic Assembly for the Settlement of the True Parents of Heaven, Earth and Humankind and for the Proclamation of the Word by God's Substantial Self. Father carried that speech with him at all times in a loose leaf binder so that he could update it as needed. In it he spoke of the significance of Foundation Day:

It is a time for a great cosmic revolution to change history, to unite the spiritual and physical worlds and to create the ideal kingdom of heaven that God has longed for since the beginning of time. We can no longer postpone or prolong the fulfillment of His wish. I have already proclaimed that January 13, 2013 will be Foundation Day. That day will be the actual beginning of God's Kingdom of Cheon Il Guk. That day will be the origin. (January 2012, Korea)

Still, when True Father passed on September 3, 2012, there were many who wondered how this bold prophecy could possibly be fulfilled. For 172 long days between True Father’s Seonghwa and Foundation Day we struggled to find meaning in our grief and our loss, and to uphold our faith in the cosmic importance and grace of Foundation Day as the day of new beginnings.

Jaju also carries the meaning of "independent.") Father said:

"Now it is the time Heaven can do everything, but it depends on whether you can take action with determination or not. We cannot move a nation and the world without centering on Heaven and the spirit world. This is why the blessed families are important." True Father and Won Pil Kim Arrive in Pusan (January 27, 1951)

After his release from Heungnam Labor Camp on October 14, 1950, True Father walked some 300 kilometers across the Korean Peninsula, arriving in Pyongyang ten days later. He spent 40 days in Pyongyang, searching for former members of his congregation, and finally departed for the South on December 2, 1950, in advance of the Red Chinese army. He was accompanied by his disciple Won Pil Kim and by Chong Hwa Pak, a follower from Heungnam Prison who was injured and had to be pushed on a bicycle. This began their nearly two-month trek to Pusan at the southernmost point of the peninsula. Abandoning refugee columns that were continually being bombed, they traveled alternate routes, sometimes were set upon by vigilantes and were subject to all manner of deprivations.

Hearing that Pusan was overflowing with refugees, Chong Hwa Pak, who had mostly recovered, stayed behind at a carpenter’s house in the city of Gyeongju. True Father and Won Pil Kim bought train tickets from there to Pusan, some 50 kilometers away. As there was no room in the passenger coaches, they rode up front, clinging to the front of the engine, the warmth of the steam engine on their backs and a biting winter wind freezing their faces during the final two hours of their journey. They arrived at Choryung Station in Pusan, cold and hungry, on January 27, 1951.

From there, True Father restarted his ministry.

First World Tour January 28, 1965, 40 nations

Accompanied by Choi Won-bok and Kim Young-oon, True Father took a Northwest Airlines plane set to depart at 3:30 in the afternoon on January 28, 1965 to begin his first world tour. Members that came to the airport saw off True Parents on their ambitious undertaking. True Father established holy grounds in each nation he visited and told the members that they “should become the kind of people who are connected to Heaven’s fortune and protect these holy grounds.” The world tour lasted until October 10.

    True Father's words : First World-Tour

The time to move beyond the national level, just as at the time when Jacob and Esau reunited, is coming soon. Such a stage will be upon us in the near future. When the age comes where the first and the second stages of restoration providence can be concluded, we must start walking towards the path that leads to the third stage. In other words, we have to start a course to restore Canaan on global level. This is why I have to start a course based on number 40. Just as Moses ordered a forty-day reconnaissance mission to restore the land of Canaan, I must now begin my own mission to explore the world. The providence called for the unity of forty nations, which is why I began my world tour from January 28, 1965.

    True Father’ Visit to Japan(January 28, 1965)

True Parents, as the first stop on their first world tour, visited Japan on January 28, 1965. Seven years had passed since 1958, when Choi Bong-chun began his missionary work in Japan. True Parents made holy grounds in eight places: Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Takamtsu, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Sendai.

On the last day, True Father encouraged the members there by saying, “You should become people that think, ‘No one has loved Japan more than I have’ or ‘No one among the billions of people on earth loved Japan with a heart more intense than mine.’ If you can do this, your heart, which loves not only the present but also the past and the future, will cause you to become a historic person.”

"Our Unification Church has a global foundation. In the end, the world will have no choice but to ride the fortune of the Unification Church and soar through the sky. What will you show to God when you ask him where Japan will be placed in the providence? Thinking about the status Japan will have when the time comes, you should firmly decide to spread to the entire nation the heavenly blessing that enables this nation to bring angels into subjugation.

In order to become such people, you must love Japan. 'You should become people that think, No one has loved Japan more than I have’ or ‘No one among the billions of people on earth loved Japan with a heart more intense than mine. If you can do this, your heart, which loves not only the present but also the past and the future, will cause you to become a historic person. You will be recognized as an important person in not only the world but in all of heaven and earth. Only such people will be able to conquer God."

On this day, February 2, in 1969, True Parents embarked upon the Second World Tour.

These words come from the FFWPU USA's 2016
This, a Week in history, January 31 – February 6

True Parents began the Second World Tour on February 2, 1969. It would take them to 21 nations over a three-month period until May 2. The First World Tour in 1965 had the purpose of blessing Holy Grounds worldwide. The Second World Tour had as its major purpose giving the Holy Marriage Blessing to overseas members. This included 13 American couples, 8 couples in Germany and 22 couples in Japan, 43 couples in all. Their Blessing was connected with the 430 Couple Blessing in Korea the previous year. In addition to the Blessing, American Unificationists learned of “Victory over Communism” and CARP activities in Korea and Japan as well as economic enterprises. This had the effect of broadening the scope of activity in the United States. The tour also broadened the mindset of Unificationists in Korea. On March 15, just before departing the United States, True Father sent a widely circulated letter to members in Korea, conveying “something of what I have felt in America during the tour.” After detailing “many complicated problems” over which “America is in agony,” he wrote:

Contrasting American and Korean members, both have relative merits and demerits. I feel that Oriental customs are conservative, but that they do not break new ground, whereas the West is open, realistic and sociable.

From this, it is possible to say that the former is internal and passive, the latter, external and positive. There is no racial discrimination among Unification Church members. They are noticeably different from other groups. I think the intimate relationship that exists among members is unprecedented in history. It truly shows we are all brothers and sisters with one heart.

When we compare the American membership, comprising several different races, with the Korean membership consisting of one race, the former seem to have very promising prospects.

In saying that, I do not mean that only the West is good. I just think the reason is that America offers its citizens an environment through which they encounter many nations and cultures, and experience much more. Therefore, I hope that the Oriental members will go abroad and keep in frequent contact with other nations in the future.

True Mother was pregnant during the tour and gave birth to Hyun Jin Moon on May 10, 1969, eight days after returning.

Here, at the link below, is an illustrated report by Barbara Mikesell TenWolde about the earliest members in the United States preparing for True Father's Day of Hope Tour of February 3rd, 4th and 6th, in 1972, in New York City.

    First, an excerpt:
"When a woman who had noticed came up, all she could do was sob and point to Master's picture on the poster she [our sister] was carrying. The Woman gave her a donation. Once, however, a member was in an office speaking to a secretary about Master's talk on February 3rd, 4th and 6th. The woman was so shocked and called some others over to hear. It turned out that they were members of a spiritualist group that had received that a great fire was to burn New. York City and then all across the nation starting February 3rd and 4th. They all bought tickets [for True Father's talks]."
