Accompanied by Choi Won-bok and Kim Young-oon, True Father took a Northwest Airlines plane set to depart at 3:30 in the afternoon on January 28, 1965 to begin his first world tour. Members that came to the airport saw off True Parents on their ambitious undertaking. True Father established holy grounds in each nation he visited and told the members that they “should become the kind of people who are connected to Heaven’s fortune and protect these holy grounds.” The world tour lasted until October 10.

The Fiftieth Anniversary of

True Parents’ Visit to Japan

January 28, 1965, Tokyo, Japan

True Parents, as the first stop on their first world tour, visited Japan on January 28, 1965. Seven years had passed since 1958, when Choi Bong-chun began his missionary work in Japan. True Parents made holy grounds in eight places: Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Takamtsu, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Sendai. On the last day, True Father encouraged the members there by saying, “You should become people that think, ‘No one has loved Japan more than I have’ or ‘No one among the billions of people on earth loved Japan with a heart more intense than mine.’ If you can do this, your heart, which loves not only the present but also the past and the future, will cause you to become a historic person.” This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of True Parents’ visit to Japan.
